We’re excited to share our latest publication: "A meshless numerical method for optimised design of buried structures in elastic medium," now published in Computers and Geotechnics. This work is part of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellowship project MetaNOVIB led by Dr Hassan Liravi.
In this study, we propose a novel hybrid meshless method that couples the Singular Boundary Method (SBM) with the Method of Fundamental Solutions (MFS) for sensitivity-based optimisation of buried/embedded structures. Hey highlights are:
• High accuracy and efficiency compared to SBM and BEM
• Effectively handles complex boundary geometries
• Achieves RMSE as low as 10⁻¹⁴ in validation with a cylindrical cavity
• Demonstrates practical relevance in real-case tunnel design, minimising geometry-induced soil deformation across a wide frequency range.
